Connect

Connecting with family, friends, and a good church is important. But, there is one connection that is more important than all of these. It is the most important connection: your connection with Jesus.

“Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” (Jesus, in Mark 10:14-15)

What advantage do children have when it comes to connecting with Jesus? They believe in simplicity! Entering into a relationship with Jesus is as simple as A B C.

Admit you are not perfect
If we are honest with ourselves, we know this is true. God says that anything less than absolutely perfect is sin. We don’t like the word, but it is the common human condition; none of us can reach God’s standard of perfection. This is what the Bible means when it says, “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Children know they aren’t perfect and can admit it.

Believe that Jesus died for you
The harsh reality of sin is that it must be punished. The Bible says that “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). What is the gift that God has given us? His Son, Jesus. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

Unfortunately, it was not enough that Jesus came to earth and lived. Jesus had to die. “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to earth to die in our place; God punished Jesus for our sins. This is hard for many of us to believe, we feel as though we should pay for our own mistakes. Children can believe that Jesus would do this–and they are only too happy to have someone else take their punishment.

Confess your sinfulness to God
Once you can admit you are not perfect, and you are willing to believe that Jesus died for you, the last step is to tell God. He said “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved” (Romans 10:9-10, 13). You must confess your sinfulness to God and ask Him to forgive you. Children believe that God will hear them and will forgive them.

To many people, this sounds too simple. Surely, there must be more! Jesus said we must come to Him like children and children need simple truths–we all need simple truths. Sadly, many people will not believe and many people will not enter into a relationship with Jesus, receiving the gift of God’s forgiveness and the gift of eternal life in Heaven.

If you are ready to receive these gifts, you can tell God something like this: ‘God, I know I’m not perfect, but I believe that Jesus died to take the punishment for my sins. I accept the gifts of forgiveness and eternal life that you have given me.’
